Masters of the Universe: Tales from Eternia reviewed – Power disruption for He-Man

Having sat out of last week’s episode, ‘A More Perfect Orko‘, Skeletor returns for episode eight of Masters of the Universe: Tales from Eternia, ‘A Power Storm Disrupts Eternia’s Magic!‘. And as the episode title suggests, a storm’s a-brewin’ and if it hits, it’ll have a serious impact on Eternian technology as well as magic.

This puts Castle Grayskull in peril, leading He-Man to jump into action – which is the key word of this week’s instalment of the show. ‘A Power Storm Disrupts Eternia’s Magic!’ is an action-orientated episode, filled with magic, energy bolts, and even a talon fighter (making its debut in the show).

The storm also brings a new wrinkle for He-Man in this episode, as he faces the prospect of turning back into Prince Adam mid-battle with Skeletor. There is a brief moment in the episode where the Power is in flux and He-Man and Adam switch back and forth, heightening the drama in the process.

As with previous episodes of Masters of the Universe: Tales from Eternia, episode eight flies by, zipping along at break neck speed. There’s barely time to think as scenes move from one to the next, bringing danger and peril, as well as the (slim) prospect that maybe this time around Skeletor will overthrow Castle Grayskull.

OK, so of course he won’t, but there’s enjoyment to be had watching him try and fail. Skeletor never stopped trying back in the ’80s show and he never stops trying in Tales from Eternia.

I have no idea how well Tales from Eternia is doing for Mattel (although I can see the first episode has already clocked up 919k views), but I hope it is reaching its target audience. The show is a real joy each week, and the animation continues to be a highlight.

Tales from Eternia is so colourful and playful, just like every great cartoon should be. While ‘A Power Storm Disrupts Eternia’s Magic!‘ is not necessarily the strongest episode of the season, it continues to demonstrate the show really has the power to provide a delightful distraction each week.
