This August, supernatural horror series, Insidious, returns to the big screen for a new instalment. The sixth entry in the series – Insidious: Out of the Further – is directed by Jacob Chase, and takes place after the events of 2023’s Insidious: The Red Door.
Describing the new movie, Sony Pictures, said: “In Insidious: Out of the Further, Amelia Eve stars as Gemma, a young mother raising her daughter in the house she grew up in who discovers she can travel into The Further, the purgatorial realm of lost souls at the heart of the Insidious universe.
“When something evil comes after her, Gemma discovers an ability that changes everything: she doesn’t just enter The Further, she can bring what lives there back to the real world. Once the demons realise her power, our world becomes their playground.”
When Insidious: Out of the Further arrives in cinemas expect it to be a popular choice with horror fans. The Insidious movies tend to be crowd pleasers, with the most recent instalment, The Red Door, becoming the highest grossing entry in the franchise.
You should also expect Insidious: Out of the Further to attract the attention of teen horror fans. Similar to The Conjuring films, the Insidious movies have always had youth appeal, so plenty of teens will be keen on taking a look.
But when Insidious: Out of the Further makes its debut, will it be suitable for all horror fans? In particular, will it be suitable for teenagers?

Insidious: Out of the Further UK age rating
In the UK, Insidious: Out of the Further has been awarded a ‘15’ certificate by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). The film has received this rating due to “strong horror, threat, violence, (and) injury detail.”
In the UK, if a film is awarded a ‘15’ certificate it is deemed suitable for audiences aged 15 or over only. No one below the age of 15 can view a ’15’ certificate movie in a UK cinema.
Based on the ’15’ certificate, the BBFC believe Insidious: Out of the Further is suitable for some teenagers (i.e. those aged 15 or over), but not all teenagers (i.e. anyone aged 14 or below).

Insidious: Out of the Further US age rating
In the US, Insidious: Out of the Further has been rated ‘PG-13’ by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPA). The movie has received this rating for “strong violent content, bloody images, terror and some strong language.”
In the US, if a movie is rated ‘PG-13’ it means parents are advised to be cautious. Some of the content of the film may be inappropriate for children under the age of 13, however, based on this rating, the MPA believe Insidious: Out of the Further should be OK for teenagers (13+).
Parents are still urged to be cautious before allowing their teens to see the film. That said, anyone can watch a ‘PG-13’ in a US cinema without any major problems.
And if you’re not still not sure about letting the young horror fans in your life go see Insidious: Out of the Further, you may wish to check out one of the five previous entries in the series, to gauge the overall tone and level of horror. All of the Insidious films are rated ‘PG-13’, so if you think your child will be OK with one of them, they should be fine with all of them.
