Masters of the Universe: Tales from Eternia continues and this week’s episode, ‘Side Scroll of Doom‘ sees Orko held captive and He-Man off to the rescue, in what is an action-packed adventure. As He-Man enters Snake Mountain in search of his friend, he finds himself encountering various obstacles including Skel-Knights, poisonous spikes, Trap Jaw, Beast Man, and a super-sized Skeletor.
In essence, the most powerful man in the universe has to run the gauntlet to achieve his goal. Things pop up, he defeats them, grabs a few power-ups along the way, and faces off against the final boss.
All of this is set out like a video game and once you see the episode, you’ll know why. This week’s episode is also a lot of fun, and sure does make you want to play a He-Man game on a retro console – or just give this instalment a quick re-watch.

The beauty of Tales from Eternia is that the short episodes allow for quick bites of a story. There doesn’t always need to be lots of depth, just plenty of enjoyable scenes and some action, and ‘Side Scroll of Doom‘ certainly delivers this.
The events of the episode are instantly familiar to anyone who plays games (or who played games in their youth), and the story still retains the message about good vs evil.
There’s also a nice little moment at the end of the episode which highlights how Skeletor spends his downtime, when he’s not plotting a dastardly scheme. Although, it also makes it clear he always has evil on his mind, as well as an obsession with defeating He-Man.
Anyway, all-in-all, ‘Side Scroll of Doom‘ is a great episode of Tales from Eternia. This is the 17th episode of the series, and this show is still delivering.
Should you wish to take a look, this episode (as well as new episodes) of Masters of the Universe: Tales from Eternia is available to watch on Mattel Adventures. Meanwhile, earlier episodes from the season are now streaming on Prime Video.
