Yet another week, and yet another glorious episode of Masters of the Universe: Tales from Eternia. And in episode four, ‘Here, Battle Cat!’, Skeletor realises he might have found a way to get to He-Man.
Ol’ bone face sees He-Man’s connection to Battle Cat as a weakness to be exploited. So, he sends Beast Man to retrieve He-Man’s faithful companion, so he can place Battle Cat in a trap and cause endless upset for the most powerful man in the universe.
But of course, things don’t quite go to plan, and soon Beast Man is squaring off against He-Man and Battle Cat. And along the way, an important lesson is learned.

Clocking in at four minutes, ‘Here, Battle Cat!‘ really does fly by, but this is largely because it is such a great little episode which explores Prince Adam’s relationship to Cringer, aka Battle Cat. The pair are best buds, and when Adam is He-Man and Cringer is Battle Cat they are a force to be reckoned with.
But when Battle Cat is in the guise of Cringer, he really doesn’t think too highly of himself. So much so, that when Cringer is caught up in Beast Man’s trap, and being transformed into Battle Cat would expose Prince Adam’s secret identity, Cringer is willing to sacrifice himself for the greater good, exclaiming “the world doesn’t need a scared old cat, but it does need He-Man.”
However, Adam reminds Cringer that not only is he much braver than he thinks, but a secret is not worth Cringer’s life. It’s at this point that Adam transforms into He-Man (with Beast Man close by), risking everything for his friend.
Which is exactly the right thing to do. An important lesson is learned here, and it is achieved in mere minutes.
And this is why Masters of the Universe: Tales from Eternia is one of the surprise hits of 2026. This show cuts back on the unnecessary faff, and gets to the heart of a story and the all-important message.
Cartoons of the past, including the original He-Man and the Masters of the Universe would have spent 20 minutes circling this message about friendship and sacrifice, and yet this little ‘toon knocks it out of the park in a fifth of the time. Bravo!

Other highlights of ‘Here, Battle Cat!‘ include a couple of brief interactions between Skeletor, Panthor, and Beast Man. On both occasions, it is clear there’s a lot of love in Snake Mountain for Skeletor’s purple pussy, offering the hint that maybe Skeletor does have a heart… somewhere.
Incidentally, four episodes in and Skeletor continues to be the best character in this show, and long may it continue. He may only get a couple of lines here and there, but he sure does bring the laughs.

I have no idea what plans Mattel has for Masters of the Universe: Tales from Eternia beyond the Mattel Adventures YouTube channel, but I really hope this ‘toon is going to start popping up as clips on socials. There is a lot of potential for this cartoon to be everywhere.
I also really hope Mattel is considering releasing action figures based on this cartoon. I’ll happily take one of each character who appears in the series (Skeletor is obviously a must-buy).
Anyway, another fantastic episode which delivers so much in such a succinct way. Top work all round!
