This May, sci-fi fantasy movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu, zooms into cinemas. The film – a spin-off of the popular Star Wars show, The Mandalorian – follows the story of the titular duo as they embark on another adventure.
Directed by Jon Favreau, and starring Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver, and Jeremy Allen White, The Mandalorian and Grogu picks up after the events of the television show’s third season. In the movie, Din Djarin (aka the Mandalorian) and his apprentice Grogu are enlisted to rescue Rotta the Hutt in exchange for information.
When The Mandalorian and Grogu arrives in cinemas expect it to be one of the big hits of the summer blockbuster season. Not only is Star Wars a robust and ever-popular crowd pleaser, The Mandalorian has a strong and loyal fan base who are sure to show up to watch the movie.
But when The Mandalorian and Grogu hits cinema screens, will it be suitable for everyone? In the leap from TV to the cinema, is this still a family-friendly corner of the Star Wars universe?
Let’s take a look at the rating.

The Mandalorian and Grogu UK age rating

In the UK, The Mandalorian and Grogu has been awarded a ‘12A’ certificate by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). The film has received this rating for “moderate violence, threat (and) injury detail.”
In the UK ‘12A’ certificate movies are deemed best suited for audiences aged 12 or over. However, anyone of any age can watch a ’12A’ in a UK cinema, as long as they are accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.
As such, the BBFC believe that while The Mandalorian and Grogu is perhaps most suitable for those aged 12 and up, the film can be enjoyed by the whole family. Parents may wish to check up on the movie before showing it to very young children, but if you believe your Star Wars-mad younglings will have no problem with the content in the movie then they are fine to view this in a cinema.

In the US, anyone of any age can watch a ‘PG-13’ in a US cinema – there are no restrictions or stipulations. The MPA simply ask parents to be cautious.
When films are given the ‘PG-13’ rating it means some material in the movie may not be entirely appropriate for children under 13. So, it is up to parents to decide if the movie is suitable for their family and act accordingly.
