This August, as the sun shines high in the summer sky, the Ice Cream Man comes a-callin’. But this isn’t the usual guy, who drives round the block bringing sweet treats to kids, this is instead a brand-new slasher which is heading into cinemas.
Directed by Eli Roth, Ice Cream Man stars Ari Millen, Charlie Zeltzer, and Shiloh O’Reilly. The film tells the story of a mysterious ice cream man who can turn children into murderous maniacs with his ice creams!
Describing the new movie, StudioCanal said: “An idyllic summer town descends into madness when an ice cream man serves kids sweet delights with horrifying results.”
When Ice Cream Man arrives in cinemas expect it to be a popular choice with cinemagoers keen on horror. Eli Roth is a popular director with the horror crowd, scary movies are riding high right now, and everyone likes an ice cream, right?
You don’t need to answer that question – ice creams are always a hit. And horror movies like this one are sure to attract fans of the genre, including horror loving teens.
But when Ice Cream Man makes its debut, will it be suitable for all horror fans? In particular, will it be suitable for teenagers?

Ice Cream Man UK age rating
In the UK, Ice Cream Man has been awarded an ‘18’ certificate by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). The film has received this rating due to “strong bloody violence (and) gore.”
In the UK, if a film is awarded an ‘18’ certificate it is deemed suitable for audiences aged 18 or over only. No one below the age of 18 can view an ’18’ certificate movie in a UK cinema, and anyone attempting to watch an ’18’ in a UK cinema who isn’t old enough, or who doesn’t have ID to prove their age when challenged, will not be allowed into a screening.
So, based on the ’18’ certificate, the BBFC believe Ice Cream Man is not suitable for most teenagers (i.e. those below the age of 18). This horror movie is strictly for adults only.

Ice Cream Man US age rating
In the US, Ice Cream Man has not been rated by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPA) so is classed as an ‘unrated’ movie. Films which are ‘unrated’ tend to be of an adult nature, they usually contain explicit material, and are generally deemed unsuitable for young audiences.
Based on Ice Cream Man‘s ‘unrated’ status, this is an adult-orientated horror movie.

In Australia, Ice Cream Man is rated ‘R18+’, while in Germany, Hungary, Israel, and Switzerland the movie is rated ’18’. In Canada, Ice Cream Man is rated ’18A’ in Alberta and British Columbia, and ’16+’ in Quebec.
In Luxembourg and Netherlands, Ice Cream Man is rated ’16’, while in New Zealand the movie is rated ‘R16’. In Norway and Sweden, Ice Cream Man is rated ’15’.
