We’re heading into the Season One finale of Masters of the Universe: Tales from Eternia, and that means the stakes are being raised. How do we know this? Because this week’s instalment, the 19th of the season, is the first entry in a two-part story.

Titled Attack on Grayskull: Part One, this opening chapter sees Beast Man, Evil-Lyn, and Trap Jaw kidnapping the Sorceress (while in bird form) and take her back to Snake Mountain. It’s here that Skeletor realises Castle Grayskull is now defenceless, and he mounts an attack on the castle – which of course meets no resistance.

With Grayskull under his watch, the lives of everyone on Eternia are under threat. And to make matters worse, without the Sorceress to wield her magic, it seems He-Man might not be able to save the day this time.

Attack on Grayskull is the first multi-part story for Tales from Eternia and as such it’s a change of pace for the series. Rather than getting a self-contained tale, all wrapped up in four minutes, audiences will have to wait until next week to discover the resolution.

This of course creates a certain level of excitement, but I have to say, this is arguably the weakest episode of Tales from Eternia because of the format. The show thrives on telling short stories, and while this two-parter won’t be particularly long when all is said and done, this first half feels like all set-up and not much else.

That said, there is some well-placed humour, a smidge of action, and the enjoyment of seeing Skeletor (temporarily) triumphant. He won’t win, and Prince Adam or He-Man will no doubt thwart him in Part Two, but for now he is allowed a victory.

So, take a look at Part One now on the Mattel Adventures YouTube channel, and then prepare yourself for Part Two next week!
