We’re onto week three of Masters of the Universe: Tales from Eternia and after spending time with Skeletor in week one, and Orko in week two, this time around the show turns its attention to a duplicate He-Man in the episode, Trojan Faker! And yes, that does mean fan-favourite character, Faker makes his way onto the show.

In this episode, Skeletor has created what he believes to be the ultimate copy of He-Man. In fact, Skeletor is so happy with this robo-replica, he believes everyone who comes into contact with this ‘Faker’ will be instantly fooled.

The plan is to send the robot He-Man to the Royal City, get him to fake an illness and convince He-Man’s friends to rush him to Castle Grayskull. From here, Skeletor will make his move, benefiting from having this faux He-Man in the Castle and under his control.

Does the plan work? Erm… what do you think?

Now, irrespective of whether or not Skeletor’s latest scheme comes to fruition (of course it doesn’t), there’s lots of fun to be had in Trojan Faker. This third episode of Masters of the Universe: Tales from Eternia continues to deliver great animation, plenty of action, and some enjoyable gags.

One of these gags explains why Faker is blue and not the same colour as He-Man. It’s a simple explanation, but a rather brilliant one.

The beauty of Tales from Eternia is how the show doesn’t over complicate things. If there is a straight forward answer to a daft situation, or there is an opportunity for a few laughs here and there, Tales from Eternia jumps on it.

These episodes have very short runtimes, so they have to make the most of the minutes they are given, and it never feels like a second is wasted. That’s some strong scriptwriting, as well as tight editing.

With this third episode there’s still no real signs of a story arc developing in Tales from Eternia, so for now the show remains a collection of standalone adventures – and I am completely fine with this. It is marvellous to be able to dip in and out of this series without having to worry about keeping track of any major plot developments.

The slow expansion of the cast is also working rather well, with Evil-Lyn and Faker showing up this time around, as well as the Sorceress getting a proper appearance (she cameoed in episode one). There’s no need to throw every hero and villain at the screen in quick succession, you simply need a few recognisable faces.

And hopefully the drip-feed of characters helps new fans to get to grips with this world. Masters of the Universe should always be seeking a new audience, and I genuinely believe what Tales from Eternia is serving up is the best way to attract fresh eyes and a whole new generation of MOTU devotees.

Should you wish to check out ‘Trojan Faker‘, or catch-up on the previous episodes of Masters of the Universe: Tales from Eternia, head on over to the Mattel Adventures YouTube channel and click ‘subscribe’. This cartoon is a real hoot, and watching new episodes is becoming a highlight of my week.

It also makes me want to grab all of my MOTU figures, toss them onto the living room floor, and start staging my own epic adventures. And if it makes me want to do that at the age of 44, just imagine how inspirational it must be to young viewers.
