Below is a list of every episode of Batman: The Animated Series featuring the Mad Hatter. This list includes episodes where the Mad Hatter was the main villain, as well as episodes featuring small cameo appearances.

In total, the Mad Hatter appeared in eight episodes, which included five main appearances and three cameos. The main appearances included the following:

Mad as a Hatter

The Mad Hatter made his debut in the episode Mad as a Hatter. In this episode, neuro-tech scientist, Jervis Tetch is working on an experimental mind control device for Wayne Enterprises, but in recent days has become distracted over his affections for co-worker, Alice.

When Jervis sees Alice upset following a fight with her boyfriend, he jumps at the chance to use his tech to his advantage. Hiding the device inside an over-sized top hat, and dressing like the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland, he controls the minds of everyone around him to make Alice believe he is popular.

But when Alice makes up with her boyfriend, Jervis slips into a jealous rage. He then uses the device to become the self-styled ‘Mad Hatter’ of Gotham.

Perchance to Dream

In Perchance to Dream, Jervis becomes frustrated with Batman continually interfering in his life, so takes drastic action to keep the Caped Crusader out of his way. After knocking Batman unconscious, Jervis connects him to a mind control device which gives Batman/Bruce Wayne the perfect life.

The Worry Men

In The Worry Men, a number of wealthy Gotham City socialites have become victims of theft. When Batman investigates, he discovers the one thing the victims all have in common is a collection of worry men – dolls which are said to take away bad dreams.

But these worry men also share another connection. The Mad Hatter is behind the crime spree and he’s using the worry men to help him pull off his crimes!

Trial

In Trial, all of the major villains in Gotham City, including Mad Hatter, join forces to put Batman on trial. The villains believe the Caped Crusader is responsible for all the troubles in their lives and he deserves to face a court of law, presided over by Judge Joker.

Animal Act

And finally, in Animal Act, Dick Grayson returns to the zoo to reconnect with his roots. However, something isn’t quite right with his former friends and it appears someone is in control. Could it be the Mad Hatter?

In addition to the five main appearances above, the Mad Hatter also popped up briefly in cameos in the following three episodes:

  • Over the Edge
  • Joker’s Wild
  • Make ‘Em Laugh

Please note: Cameo appearances can indicate a reduced/small role in an episode, or can simply be a quick on-screen appearance that lasts mere seconds. All of the episodes which feature cameo appearances have been placed at the end of this list, as these are not Mad Hatter stories.
