In 1992, X-Men: The Animated Series made its debut. The comic book cartoon, based on the Marvel Comics characters of the same name, followed the story of a team of mutants who fight for equality in a world that hates and fears them.
Upon making its debut, X-Men: The Animated Series was deemed a hit with audiences and quickly became appointment television. Critics loved the compelling writing and excellent character work, while fans appreciated the care that was taken to ensure the X-Men mythology was presented in a respectful and entertaining way.
One of the key aspects of X-Men: The Animated Series was its cast of heroes, including the likes of Storm, Rogue, and Jubilee. And one of most notable mutant heroes in the show was Cable, who appeared in a collection of episodes in the series.
These stories created a sense of mystery around Cable, teasing his connection to the X-Men. The episodes also saw Cable cross paths with the Sentinels, Graydon Creed, and Apocalypse.

Slave Island
Cable made his first appearance in X-Men: The Animated Series via the episode, Slave Island. In this story, Gambit, Storm, and Jubilee are on the island of Genosha, where they are enslaved and forced to build a dam which will power the construction of Sentinels.
During the course of the episode, Gambit manages to escape capture. While on the run he crosses paths with Cable, who is on the island with his own agenda.
The Cure
In The Cure, respected scientist, Dr. Adler announces a way to turn mutants into regular humans, with a supposed ‘cure’. Travelling to Scotland to track down Adler on Muir Island, Cable has plans to destroy Adler and his cure.
Time Fugitives – Part One
Time travelling mutant, Bishop, returns to the 1990s to destroy a deadly mutant-virus which has caused insurmountable deaths in his future timeline. However, Cable is also back in the ’90s, with a plan to ensure Bishop fails.
Time Fugitives – Part Two
As Bishop continues his attempts to stop the spread of the virus he finds opposition from Cable. If Bishop’s future is averted, then Cable’s timeline never comes to pass.
Beyond Good and Evil – Part One
On his way back to the future, a temporal event occurs which sends Bishop off course, trapping him in the Axis of time. Here he learns of a dark plot, while the X-Men battle Mr. Sinister in the 1990s, on the wedding day of Scott Summers and Jean Grey.
Meanwhile, in the far future, Cable makes his way to Apocalypse’s temple, with one thing in mind: To destroy Apocalypse.
Beyond Good and Evil – Part Two
The dark plot continues in Part Two, as Apocalypse enlists the help of multiple villains to kidnap mutant psychics. Meanwhile, in 3999 AD, Cable seeks out a time machine to help him travel back to the past, in a continued attempt to kill Apocalypse.
Beyond Good and Evil – Part Three
In Part Three, Cable teams up with the X-Men. His plan is to take a mutant team back to the past to destroy Apocalypse’s Lazarus Chamber – the source of his strength and longevity.
Beyond Good and Evil – Part Four
The X-Men, Bishop, and Cable face their greatest battle with the fate of the world (as well as all of time), hanging in the balance.
