Season Two of X-Men spin-off show, The Gifted continues on UK TV screens tonight with episode five – afterMath. I’ll be blogging along live from 9pm, so why not follow along too.
Oh and if you’re running a little bit behind, then here are the blog entries for episodes one, two, three and four – eMergence, unMoored, coMplications and outMatched. Read, digest and then come back for more.
I’ll see you here just before 9pm.

8:56pm – I’m here!
8:57pm – I’d like to tell you that I have FOX switched on and ready to go… but I’d be lying if I told you that. At present, I’m watching a Christmas-themed episode of Sabrina: The Teenage Witch on 4 Music. I’ll switch over in a moment.
8:59pm – OK, so this week’s episode of The Gifted is directed by Scott Peters. Peters was the head writer on the 2009 remake of V.
9:01pm – It’s starting.
9:02pm – The episode is beginning (as usual) with a flashback. This time we’re going back 12 years.
9:04pm – This whole scene, about cops using force to arrest mutants, is a play on certain situations which have happened in the US in recent years, whereby members of the police force have arrested people of colour.
9:06pm – For those still playing catch-up, Andy is still with the Inner Circle.
9:09pm – The Cuckoos looking creepy there.
9:11pm – I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, Andy is morphing into Andy Warhol.
9:13pm – I’d like to say the Morlocks look cool, but there’s not enough of them to look cool. More budget needs to be allocated here, please.
9:14pm – And we’re into the first ad break of the night. Prepare yourselves for an onslaught of Christmas-themed adverts.
9:18pm – Apparently FOX doesn’t care about Christmas. Every other channel is non-stop Christmas right now.
9:22pm – What is the Inner Circle’s big game plan?
9:24pm – For those trying to keep track, The Gifted has various different sub-groups. These include the Underground, the Inner Circle, the Morlocks and the Purifiers.
9:26pm – Rebecca’s mutant ability is to turn things inside out. Probably best not to piss her off.
9:28pm – Ad break two.
9:35pm – Erg has an ‘M’ branded on his face. In the comics, the M branding indicates that characters are mutants. It is something seen in the future timeline, most commonly associated with the mutant, Bishop.
9:38pm – The Purifiers are using violence to get what they want. Turner seems to be going along with it for now, but I have a feeling he’ll take issue with their methods in time.
9:41pm – Erg wants to brand mutants – and Blink seems OK with this?
9:46pm – We’re into the final ad break of the night. Time to talk about this episode. Things seem to be coming together a bit more now, but I still feel that the show needs to step up the action a little. Also, it’s been long enough now – I want answers as to what actually happened to the X-Men. I get that The Gifted wants to drag things out a bit, to develop its own story, but it needs to address this plot point before boredom sets in.
9:54pm – Erg is starting to sound like Magneto.
9:56pm – Rebecca is now one of the Inner Circle. Meanwhile, protests are taking place and mutants are getting branded in the sewers.
9:58pm – And we’re done.
10pm – A bit better this week and it does seem as though the story is picking up its pace. Thanks for joining me – let’s see what next week brings on The Gifted.
