Exploring Sonny with a Chance

In 2010, a second season began airing, this time comprising 26 episodes. This season was also a hit, which meant the show should have returned for a third season, but unfortunately this wasn’t to be.

Behind the scenes, lead actress Demi Lovato was dealing with some personal issues, which meant she was unavailable to shoot a third season. However, production did begin on Season Three, under the belief that Lovato would be able to return.

With Lovato absent, the focus was temporarily switched to her cast mates, with the story centring around Sonny’s colleagues in the So Random! sketch show instead. However, when it became clear Lovato would not be coming back, the production had to change direction.

The episodes that had been shot for the third season were rebranded as a spin-off series, titled So Random!. This show would maintain the focus on the other cast members, and include a bunch of sketches, without the need to include Lovato.

So Random! hit screens in 2011 and ran for one season, comprising 26 episodes. The series brought the Sonny Universe to an end.
