In 2007, US sitcom The Big Bang Theory arrived on television screens. Created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, the series followed the story of four science geeks – Sheldon, Leonard, Howard, and Raj – and their interactions with Sheldon and Leonard’s next door neighbour, Penny.

In the series, Penny befriends the group, learning more about their general interest in comic books and nerdy science stuff along the way. Over time, two fellow scientists Amy and Bernadette also join the gang, adding more fun and hilarity to proceedings.

Upon making its debut, The Big Bang Theory was a huge hit with audiences. The gags landed well, the geek content proved appealing to viewers, and the series became a ratings winner.

Due to the popularity of the show, The Big Bang Theory ran for multiple seasons, becoming one of the most popular comedies on television. It also produced a collection of spin-off shows, which acted as prequels and sequels.

OK, before we get to the list of shows, let’s take a look how The Big Bang Theory Universe developed.

As noted above, The Big Bang Theory made its debut in 2007. The first season proved popular and was followed by a second season in 2008.

The second year also proved popular, and the show continued with a new season each year, running through Seasons Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, and Ten. At this point, due to the continued success of The Big Bang Theory, a prequel series was created titled Young Sheldon.

Young Sheldon rewound the clock to the late 1980s to focus on the early years of young Sheldon Cooper. The show dealt with Sheldon’s childhood, and featured voice narration from Jim Parsons, the actor who played Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory.

The first season of Young Sheldon hit television screens in 2017. It aired at the same time as the eleventh season of The Big Bang Theory.

The following year, in 2018, The Big Bang Theory came to an end after 12 years and 279 episodes. During the same year, a second season of Young Sheldon hit TV screens.

Young Sheldon continued in 2019 with a third season, followed by a fourth in 2020. The show then remained on air for a fifth and sixth season, before concluding in 2024 with Season Seven, and 141 episodes.

Although The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon were now concluded, The Big Bang Theory Universe continued with a third television show titled Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.

Debuting in 2024, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage was created as a sequel to Young Sheldon. Set during the 1990s, the series focused its story on Sheldon’s brother, Georgie and his wife, Mandy McAllister.

Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage proved successful, and was followed by a second season in 2025, as well as a third in 2026. Meanwhile, a fourth television show was put into production titled Stuart Fails to Save the Universe.

Created as a spin-off of The Big Bang Theory, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe was conceived as a sci-fi sequel series, focusing on Stuart Bloom – a friend of Sheldon and Leonard’s.

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe made its debut in 2026. Due to its success, the show was renewed for a second season.
