Todd Phillips’ Joker movie has surpassed a huge milestone – the film has taken more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

According to Box Office Mojo, Joker – which opened in October – has so far made $1,016,599,593.

Pretty good, right?

Joker is the third Batman film to pass the $1 billion mark, following in the footsteps of The Dark Knight (2008) and The Dark Knight Rises (2012). The difference? Both of those movies were produced on pretty sizeable budgets, while Joker was not.

Joker was produced on a budget of $55 million – which is a big chunk of change to you and I, but for a studio this is a HUGE return on investment. Put simply, the film has been a runaway success for Warner Bros.

Does this mean a sequel is on the cards?

There’s been no confirmation of a Joker sequel yet, but it’s probably best not to rule it out.
