This July, the Evil Dead horror series returns with a new entry: Evil Dead Burn. Directed by Sébastien Vaniček, the movie stars Souheila Yacoub, Tandi Wright, Hunter Doohan, and Luciane Buchanan, and focuses on a family gathering which turns deadly.
Describing the new movie, Warner Bros. said: “Evil Dead Burn unleashes the franchise’s most savage and terrifying ride to date, blazing onto big screens with an all-new chapter of carnage and demonic mayhem. After the loss of her husband, a woman seeks solace with her in-laws in their secluded family home.
“As one by one they are transformed into Deadites—turning the gathering into a family reunion from hell—she comes to discover that the vows she took in life live on… even in death.”
It’s already been a good year for horror, thanks to films such as Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, Obsession, and Backrooms, so expect there to be a great deal of interest in Evil Dead Burn when it makes its debut. The Evil Dead movie series is also extremely popular, and this in turn is likely to draw in audiences – including horror fans of all ages.
But when Evil Dead Burn hits cinema screens this summer, will the movie be suitable for all horror fans? And more specifically, will Evil Dead Burn be suitable for teenage horror fans?
Let’s take a look at the rating…

Evil Dead Burn UK age rating

In the UK, Evil Dead Burn has been awarded an ‘18’ certificate by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). The film has received this rating due to “strong bloody violence (and) gore.”
In the UK, if a film is awarded an ‘18’ certificate it is deemed suitable for audiences aged 18 or over only. No one below the age of 18 can view an ’18’ certificate movie in a UK cinema, and anyone attempting to watch an ’18’ in a UK cinema who doesn’t look old enough and doesn’t have ID will not be allowed into a screening – those are the rules.
So, based on the ’18’ certificate, the BBFC believe Evil Dead Burn is not suitable for most teenagers (i.e. those below the age of 18). It’s adults only for this one.

Evil Dead Burn US age rating

In the US, Evil Dead Burn has been rated ‘R’ by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPA). Evil Dead Burn has received this rating due to strong bloody horror violence and gore, and language.
In the US, the ‘R’ rating means the film is classed as ‘restricted’. The restriction is as follows: Audiences under the age of 17 must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.
And this is where things differ between the UK and the US. The ‘R’ rating technically means Evil Dead Burn can be watched by any one of any age – including teens and below.
This doesn’t necessarily mean it is suitable for all ages, but that’s where parental discretion comes into play. The MPA set the ‘R’ rating, but then believe it is up to parents to decide if the movie is suitable for their children using the relevant information available.
If you’re unsure, you may wish to take a look at the most recent Evil Dead movie, Evil Dead Rise, which was released in 2022. This movie also carried an ‘R’ rating, and should give you an indication of the type of tone, content, and graphic material you can expect in Evil Dead Burn.
