I love movies. And I really love the summer blockbuster season.
Why? Because it’s when millions of people all over the world go to their local cinema to watch all of the big films.
And more people watching movies means more people talking about movies. Lots of discussions, lots of chatter, lots of appreciation for film.
And one of the best things about this current summer blockbuster season is all the positive chatter I’m seeing regarding Masters of the Universe. From praise for the action sequences and humour, to the sheer joy of seeing the likes of Trap Jaw, Ram Man, and Mekaneck on the big screen.
For some, seeing Masters of the Universe is simply a bit of entertainment and enjoyable escapism. But for others, it is a pivotal milestone on life’s (good) journey.
And it’s here where Masters of the Universe is having a very positive impact. Particularly on those of us over the age of 40 who grew up watching He-Man and Skeletor battling it out in the ‘80s.

Over the past two weeks I’ve read many, many online comments from people who have watched Masters of the Universe and who have taken to social media to highlight how the film has impacted them.
Some have taken their children to the cinema to watch the new movie, while many have watched with their parents. Guys and gals in their 40s and 50s, going with their now elderly parents to recapture the magic they once shared decades ago.
And over the course of 140-minutes the 40 and 50-year-old folk spoke about how they were mentally transported back to a time when they would sit cross-legged in front of the TV, watching the He-Man cartoon without a care in the world. Meanwhile, their older parents recalled days gone by when they would traipse through the aisles of Toys ‘R’ Us on the hunt for action figures of Beast Man and Teela to make their kids happy.
Stirring up memories like this is priceless. Masters of the Universe has pulled off a feat which doesn’t happen all that often, and for many it may not happen again.

But these aren’t the only stories I’ve read. Some folk have mentioned how they have watched Masters of the Universe with their youngest and have bonded over the experience. Others have attended a screening in memory of a departed sibling.
Some have watched Masters of the Universe on their own, and then have gone back a second time with their partner or their whole family to enjoy a collective afternoon at the flicks. Others have liked the movie so much they have watched it three or four times.
Off the back of a screening, some have purchased the Masters of the Universe popcorn buckets and cups, while others have picked up posters. Some have gone out and bought their kids a stack of He-Man toys, so they can continue the fun on the living room floor.
Others have gone online to post glowing reviews of the movie, to talk about their favourite scenes, or to tell everyone they have pre-ordered the DVD, Blu-ray, or 4K edition. And then there are those who have rated Masters of the Universe on Rotten Tomatoes (87% audience score) or IMDb (7.1/10) to express their personal feelings over the movie.
In fact, on IMDb, Masters of the Universe is currently the third most popular/most talked about movie, right after break-out hits, Obsession and Backrooms. Masters of the Universe has jumped up nine places, as more people flock to a screening.
And all of the above is just a small snapshot of the buzz surrounding Masters of the Universe. It’s out there, it’s doing good things, and it’s truly amazing to see.
So, if you have had chance to watch Masters of the Universe at the cinema, and it impacted you in a positive way, be sure to share your thoughts and experiences. It’s not going unnoticed.
