Robert De Niro’s movie career started in the 1965, when he took a small uncredited role as ‘client at the diner’ in the film, Three Rooms in Manhattan. He followed this up with another uncredited role in Young Wolves in 1968, before playing the part of Jon Rubin in Greetings.

De Niro’s roles during this decade were few, but the films gave him a starting point for his career. His movies in the 1960s included:

Onto the 1970s now, and while the ’60s gave De Niro a start in the industry, it was during this decade that he really began to make his mark. The 1970s is where De Niro appeared in some of his most notable films, including The Godfather Part II and Taxi Driver.

Other films during the ’70s included 1900, Means Streets, and Bang the Drum Slowly. He also appeared in Michael Cimino’s The Deer Hunter, opposite Christopher Walken and Meryl Streep.

Moving into the 1980s, and with De Niro’s star status having taken a considerable upswing, he continued to appear in a series of high-profile pictures. He kicked the decade off playing the part of Jake La Motta in Martin Scorsese’s Raging Bull, before moving on to movies such as The King of Comedy, Brazil, and The Mission.

In 1987, De Niro took on the part of Al Capone in The Untouchables, while in 1988 he played Jack Walsh in Midnight Run. In 1989 he popped up in Jacknife and We’re No Angels.

Sliding into the 1990s, and De Niro continued to remain at the top of his game, headlining a number of pictures, including the mobster movie, Goodfellas. In 1991, he played the role of Donald Rimgale in Backdraft, before appearing as the vile (and scene-stealing) Max Cady in Cape Fear.

Notable movies in this decade included A Bronx Tale, Frankenstein, Casino, and Heat. In 1999, De Niro scratched his funny bone with the comedy Analyze This, and appeared in Joel Schumacher’s Flawless.
