In 1985, Japanese publisher, Tokuma Shoten, began publishing Yoshiki Takaya’s manga series, Bio-Booster Armor Guyver (aka Guyver). The sci-fi comic focused its story on a symbiotic techno-organic suit, which enhances the abilities of its host, and it quickly proved popular with readers.

Shortly after Guyver began appearing in print, the manga was adapted into a short horror OVA (original video animation), which went by the title, Guyver: Out of Control. The film followed two high school students, Shō Fukamachi and Mizuki Segawa, who accidentally discover one of three Bio Booster Armor units, which have been stolen from the shadowy organisation known as the Chronos Corporation.

Due to the popularity of the manga, as well as the OVA movie, Guyver was then adapted into further movies. These additional features were live-action pictures, released during the 1990s.

But how many Guyver movies are there? For all the details and more, keep reading.

Was the Guyver adapted into other projects outside of movies?

In addition to the movies listed above, The Guyver has also been adapted into two anime series. The first series was 1989’s 12-episode release, The Guyver: Bio-Booster Armor, while the second was 2005’s 26-episode series, Guyver: The Bioboosted Armor.

Both of these anime series were well received, and both are considered to be better adaptations than the movies.
