Although it is often considered as a vicious and pretty scary action-adventure movie, Steven Spielberg’s dino-romp, Jurassic Park, is far less blood thirsty than you might think. Sure, you recall plenty of blood and death in the movie, with dinosaurs chomping their way through cast members left, right, and centre, but that’s not quite the case.
While it’s true that a number of people fall victim to dinosaurs throughout the picture, very few characters die. In fact, plenty survive the dino-carnage.
So, how many people die in Jurassic Park?
In total, only five people die in Jurassic Park. The victims include:
- Unnamed dinosaur handler
- Donald Gennaro
- Dennis Nedry
- Ray Arnold
- Robert Muldoon
The first victim to die is a dinosaur handler, who is killed by a velociraptor at the beginning of the movie. The man is killed while the velociraptor is captive and being transported.
The second victim is Donald Gennaro – a lawyer invited to Jurassic Park to assess the attraction, following the dinosaur handler’s death. Gennaro is killed by the park’s T-Rex, after it escapes from its enclosure.
The third person to die in the film is I.T. specialist, Dennis Nedry. Nedry is killed by a dilophosaurus, while trying to flee Jurassic Park.
The fourth victim is chief engineer, Ray Arnold, who is killed off screen, while trying to reboot the previously deactivated electrical system at Jurassic Park. Although Arnold’s death is not shown on screen, it is implied that velociraptors were responsible for his death.
The fifth and final character to die in the movie is game warden, Robert Muldoon. As with the dinosaur handler and Ray Arnold, Muldoon is also killed by velociraptors.

The survivors
While five characters are killed in Jurassic Park, six lead characters survive the events of the film. The survivors include:
- Dr. Alan Grant
- Dr. Ellie Sattler
- Dr. Ian Malcolm
- Dr. John Hammond
- Tim Murphy
- Lex Murphy
Dr. Henry Wu, who is introduced as a minor character in Jurassic Park, also survives the events of the movie. Wu evacuates the island of Isla Nublar early into the movie, paving the way for his return in later Jurassic movies.
