I was a bit disappointed with the Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom (2018). While there was a few things I liked in the movie, there was a lot that I didn’t. As I now look forward to the next entry, 2022’s Jurassic World: Dominion, I have high hopes about what it might bring.

Here are five things I would really like to see in Jurassic World: Dominion. From characters and locations to storybeats and dinos!

A proper storyline for Dr. Wu

To date, Dr. Henry Wu has appeared in three Jurassic movies: Jurassic Park (1993), Jurassic World (2015) and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018). Those last two films in particular have started to establish Wu as a sinister figure in the ongoing story.

That’s fine, but now it’s time for some pay off and in particular for Wu to be elevated to the role of the chief villain. No more moustache twirling in the background, let’s see Wu take centre stage as the big bad of the next chapter.

Secrets of Isla Sorna

Fans of the Jurassic Park/World series of films know there are two dino-islands: Isla Nublar, where the events of Jurassic Park, Jurassic World and Fallen Kingdom take place and Isla Sorna, the main location for the events of The Lost World (1997) and Jurassic Park III (2001). Following the events of Fallen Kingdom, Isla Nublar is no more, but shouldn’t it be time we got a little more info about Isla Sorna?

Isla Sorna gets a namecheck in Fallen Kingdom and we know that the island is pretty much done and dusted as far as the series goes, but surely there’s still a little wiggle room for its inclusion in Jurassic World: Dominion?

I don’t expect Dominion to return to Isla Sorna – I think the dino-island plots of the first five films are pretty much over now – but surely there are a few more secrets to uncover about the island?

More character development from legacy characters

One thing that really irked me about Fallen Kingdom was the all-too-brief appearance of Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcolm. Don’t get me wrong, I love the character, but as all his scenes were in the trailer his inclusion became nothing more than a glorified cameo.

For Jurassic World: Dominion, it would be nice to see franchise characters such as Malcolm, Alan Grant, and Ellie Sattler (who are all coming back), given something more to do. If an actor is being brought back to the series and (heavily) takes part in the marketing and promotion for said film, like Goldblum did in the previous movie, then give them something to do!

Dial back the ‘super’ dinos

As much fun as the Indominus Rex and the Indoraptor are, for the third Jurassic World film it would be good to have a return to traditional dinosaurs. Yeah, I know, people want to see bigger, badder dinosaurs, but it has reached the point where these ‘super’ dinos are getting out of hand.

Dial the super dinos back and focus on the dinosaurs that now roam the US. Let’s see what happens when the mosasaurus chomps on surfers (as glimpsed at in Fallen Kingdom but not explored).

A fitting conclusion to the Jurassic World storyline

And finally, I’d happily watch Jurassic Park/Jurassic World movies forever and I’d also welcome a sprawling Jurassic Universe filled with standalone side movies, I really feel the current storyline needs a fitting conclusion. The ongoing journey of Owen, Claire, and the aforementioned Dr. Wu needs some kind of closure.

I believe the Jurassic films could continue beyond Jurassic World: Dominion, but I feel this next entry needs to wrap things up so that a new starting point can be established for future stories. Give Owen and Claire a fitting ending and wrap up this particular era of the franchise.

Oh… and more John Williams music! It was sorely missing from Fallen Kingdom.
