Just a quick one for those in the UK waking up this morning, hoping to watch Mortal Kombat today (or possibly over the weekend), I have bad news. Despite a couple of websites suggesting that it will be hitting video-on-demand (VOD) platforms from April 23rd 2021, Mortal Kombat is NOT currently available in the UK.
Yes, I know that the movie is trending on social media; I know that various entertainment websites are carrying reviews for the film; and I am aware that Warner Bros. Pictures released the first seven minutes on YouTube, but Mortal Kombat is not available to rent or buy in the UK. You won’t find it on Amazon, NOW TV, iTunes or any other streaming platform that carries movies.
Yep, this is a big disappointment.
So, what gives?
Well, despite a couple of websites suggesting Mortal Kombat would arrive in the UK today, it looks like those sites jumped the gun a little. Warner Bros. Pictures has decided to hold off from releasing the movie over here, and so far, the studio hasn’t given an official reason why.
The film is available to view in the US today, and can be watched on HBO MAX or in selected cinemas. So, any reviews that you see, or any discussions that are taking place about the movie, are coming from the other side of the pond – so be careful of MAJOR spoilers.
This of course begs the question: When will Mortal Kombat be released in the UK? The answer is unclear. It is looking likely that Warner Bros. will hold off the movie’s UK release until cinemas reopen on May 17th, but until the studio officially announces its release plan for Mortal Kombat, this is only speculation.
As someone who is keen to watch Mortal Kombat (and who was set to rent the movie today), I appreciate everyone’s frustration over the lack of information regarding Mortal Kombat’s UK release. Warner Bros. did the exact same thing with Wonder Woman 1984 and Tom & Jerry, and the lack of communication is pretty poor.
Ah well… looks like we will all have to watch something else this weekend.

As of today, Warner Bros. UK has announced that Mortal Kombat will be available to rent in the UK on Thursday May 6th 2021. The movie can be streamed from all major digital retail platforms.
