Stop what you are doing and prepare yourself for an instant shot of nostalgia.

Back in 2019, Renault Brasil unveiled a fantastic, and inventive television commercial for its new KWID Outsider. The television commercial – aimed at those of us in the 30-40+ age range (and above) featured characters from the 1980s animated show, Dungeons & Dragons!

The live-action short included all the classic characters from the cartoon, including the Dungeon Master, Venger, Tiamat and Uni!

Oh yeah, and it also managed to fit the KWID Outsider into the story too – and in a way that fitted into the narrative.

For fans of the classic D&D cartoon, the commercial was so, so good! And as someone who grew up watching the ‘80s ‘toon (and loving it) the idea of seeing the likes of Eric, Hank, Diana et al, in live-action blew my mind!

I honestly never imagined seeing the oft-overlooked Dungeons & Dragons cartoon revived to flog cars, but heck, it happened and it was great!

And while the commercial was originally filmed with Brazilian viewers in mind, it was dubbed for international audiences. Yes, this included those who speak English (see below).

Over the years, a number of iconic ‘80s characters have been revived for commercials, including He-Man and RoboCop, but I have to say the D&D commercial trumped them all.

Now could someone turn this clever piece of marketing into a film or a television series?

Please.
