Over the past few days the entertainment industry, like pretty much every industry, has had to think carefully about the problems faced over the current global pandemic. As a result, various studios have postponed the release of their forthcoming movies.

In some countries the films simply cannot play because all of the cinemas are closed. In other countries, where cinemas currently remain open, it is possible that closures are on the horizon.

Today, Tim Richards, Founder and CEO of Vue International put out a statement to address the current situation regarding the UK’s cinema chain. The message reads as follows:

“As the global situation around COVID-19 (‘coronavirus’) develops, we want to reassure all of our valued customers that we are monitoring official guidance very closely and continue to take all necessary measures to support your health and well-being. Providing our customers with a high quality, enjoyable and safe big screen experience remains our top priority.

“Given the intense focus on steps being taken to halt the spread of the virus, we would like to reassure our customers that Vue International has implemented stringent health and safety policies, with strict practices and procedures in place designed to protect our customers and staff at all times.

“To help tackle the spread of the virus, we have put in place additional measures across our cinemas including:

  • Advanced daily cleaning for all contact points
  • Frequent and proper hand washing for all staff and customers
  • Educating our staff on the necessary steps for prevention both for themselves and for customers

“To ensure the safety and well-being of yourselves and others, we ask anyone showing the symptoms of coronavirus follows official advice and stays at home for 7 days.

“As you would expect, we are also doing our part by putting employment policies in place so that our staff are protected and are not penalised financially if they need to stay at home.

“By taking these actions we are confident that all efforts have been made to present as safe an environment as possible for customers and staff. We will continue to work with local health authorities and will further enhance our operating procedures as required.

“In line with the latest Government and Health Authority guidance, we continue to operate as usual. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and look forward to welcoming you at one of our cinemas soon.”

At present, Vue cinemas have a packed line-up of movies and this will continue until such time as it doesn’t. New releases are still appearing on the big screen – this week these new releases included Bloodshot and The Hunt – but expect them to drop off very shortly due to the postponements.
