Remember a couple of days ago, when Joker hit $1 billion dollars and I said that it was probably best not to rule out a sequel? Well, it looks like I was right – a sequel is officially go!

According to various reports, including The Hollywood Reporter, a Joker sequel is in the works at Warner Bros. Todd Phillips is being eyed to return to the director’s chair, with Joaquin Phoenix likely to reprise the role of Arthur Fleck.

No release date has been set yet, but due to the enormous success of the movie, a sequel will arrive sooner rather than later. But is this something you want to see?

Over the past few days, various sites have reported conflicting stories regarding news of a Joker sequel. With a number saying that The Hollywood Reporter jumped the gun with the news.

What’s the truth?

Here’s word from Todd Phillips (via Indiewire):

“Here’s the real truth about a sequel. While Joaquin and I have talked about it, and while touring the world with Warner Bros executives – going to Toronto, and Venice, and other places – of course, we’re sitting at dinner and they’re saying, ‘So, have you thought about…?‘ But talking about contracts, there’s not a contract for us to even write a sequel, we’ve never approached Joaquin to be in a sequel. Will that happen? Again, I just think the article was anticipatory at best.
