You may recall that at the beginning of the summer, Paramount Pictures unveiled the first official trailer for its Sonic the Hedgehog movie. You may also recall how badly received the trailer was.

The problem? The design of the movie’s lead character looked… well… terrible.

Really, really bad.

As a result of a huge negative reaction to the character design, Paramount Pictures announced it was going to redesign Sonic. And do you know what? The studio did!

Earlier today, Paramount released a new (much better) trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog, which includes the redesign. You can watch the trailer below, but just so you can see the difference, here is a side-by-side comparison.

While it might not look like a huge difference, believe me, it is! The design has been tweaked to soften Sonic’s features and make him look more like his computer game counterpart.

The original movie design was quite humanoid, with more human-looking arms, legs, teeth etc. In the new design, these features have been altered to make him more cartoon-y and it makes Sonic look less creepy.

But it’s not just the design which is improved, the trailer is also better. Check it out and see what you think.

What do you think?

Personally I am far more interested in watching this movie now. I am also impressed that Paramount listened to the feedback and very promptly addressed the issue, rather than steamroll ahead.

Well done.

Sonic the Hedgehog is due to hit cinema screen in February 2020.
