It’s a story that just keeps going.
First news broke that actor Clayne Crawford had been fired from Lethal Weapon due to on-set incidents – although at the time, nothing had been confirmed by Fox.
Then Fox announced that Seann William Scott was to take over as co-lead of the show, at which point Clayne Crawford’s departure was officially announced.
Clayne Crawford then took to social media to thank his fans for their support.
And now, Lethal Weapon actor Damon Wayans (aka Murtaugh) has taken to Twitter to speak out, addressing the outrage/fan-backlash that Clayne’s firing has caused and to detail his own take on the situation. It would appear there is not a lot of love lost between Wayans and Crawford.
To begin, Wayans posted a video taken during the recording of a Clayne Crawford-directed episode. This is the episode in which one of the alleged on-set incidents took place.
Wayans, posted the video along with the comment: “Now that the fate of the show is solidified. I’d like to address the TWITTER outrage with this video and image to follow.”
As you can see in the video (and the still below), the actor reacts to being hit during the course of the stunt.
Prior to the reveal of this video, it had been reported that an actor had been hit on-set during a stunt, but there was no mention of who that actor was. It would now appear that the actor involved was Wayans.
After posting the video, Wayans followed up with a shot of the back of his head, where a cut can be seen. He commented: “How does the shrapnel from this hit me on the opposite side of the head? #directedby@claynecrawford”
This post was accompanied by a further comment: “Below is a rendering seeking to explain yesterday’s incident. It turns out there was a second shooter, to Damon’s left, on the other side of the pillar behind which his character was crouched, which accounts for what he heard from his left side. @claynecrawford #noapology.”
During the course of Wayans’ posts, he uploaded an image which he claimed explained other peoples’ feelings towards Crawford. The image features a doctored sticker of Crawford, taken from around the shooting lot, which reads: ‘Clayne Crawford is an emotional terrorist’.
Wayans accompanied the image with the following: “Since @warnerbrostv is not defending me at all.. here’s another photo of images other people were posting in and around the lot. Not me! He became UNINSURABLE! Relished in making female cry. And stuck fear in cast and crew. #dontblameme.”
This was followed by another post addressed to outraged Twitter users. The post – which included a tag for actor Lance Henriksen – read: “He hit another actor in the mouth with a bottle of green tea and busted his mouth open. @lancehenriksen a white man!!! #notanaccident #knowyourfacts!”
Finally, Wayans posted a comment to the Twitter users who have defended Crawford. The post said: “bye to TWITTER and the weirdos who don’t understand set decor and privilege it is to do what we do. put up with this two seasons. Kiss the dark side of my ass if you don’t understand it wasn’t just me. @ClayneCrawford has a file of infractions. @WarnerBrosEnt #releasethetapes.”
A few days ago, Wayans posted a video showing him feeling under the weather, accompanied by the caption: “So sick right now from all this stress I’m under. @LethalWeaponFOX @mattmillerTV @warnerbrostv.”
Although Clayne Crawford was tagged in a number of posts on Twitter, the actor has not responded.
