Over the last few days a number of high profile shows have either been cancelled or renewed – or in the case of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, cancelled then renewed. But what about Gotham? What is the show’s fate?
Well, if you’re a fan of the Batman prequel series then I have good news and I have bad news.
Will Gotham be renewed for Season Five?
The good news is that Gotham has been renewed by Fox for a fifth season. The bad news is that this will be Gotham‘s final season.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the fifth and final season of Gotham will focus on Bruce Wayne’s transformation into Batman. No word on how many episodes there’ll be, but it’s being suggested it might be less than previous seasons.
If you live in the US then Gotham will return to your screens later this year. For UK viewers there’s no confirmation (just yet) of when or where the series will air.
In the UK, Gotham fans have been given the runaround when it comes to the show, having had to follow the series across multiple platforms. The first two seasons aired on Channel 5, before the show moved to Netflix for Season Three & E4 for Season 4.
Many fans in the UK, who don’t subscribe to Netflix, simply haven’t seen Gotham‘s third season. Hopefully they’ll get to see it’s final season.
So, what are your thoughts on Gotham? Are you sad it’s ending or do you think it should have concluded much sooner? Tell me your thoughts in the comments section below.
Personally I’m not a fan of Gotham; from what I’ve seen I find it too derivative of the Batman mythology, however I appreciate it has a loyal following. At the end of the day, if it brings new fans to Batman then it hasn’t been a bad thing, right?
**UPDATE 14/05/18**
Gotham Season Five will air in the US in 2019 – not during the back-end of 2018.
9 Responses to Gotham renewed, but…
I’m not sure how Gotham could avoid being derivative of Batman. I actually rather enjoy watching origin stories for villains that are generally better than the ones provided in the movies.

True. I guess I’m trying to say the reason I walked away from it was the villains just didn’t seem to match up with my expectations of a Batman show. Also, when it first started it seemed to be a police procedural show, then a villain showcase and then something else. I’ve been told it gets better.

I’ve enjoyed Gotham. It had a bit of a shaky start with its first season, but it soon hit its stride with seasons 2 & 3. I’m glad its been renewed for a fifth season, and I’m not surprised it’ll be the last. I think they’ve gone as far as they can with the concept really. Its a shame UK fans have had to put up with such shambolic scheduling, very poor by Channel 5, but at least E4 are showing it now.

Maybe I should give it another go. I watched all of Season One, so I guess I could jump in with Season Two. I’ve just updated the post to say that the fifth season will air in 2019 and not at the end of 2018. Fox have announced their schedule and the show has been pushed to 2019 for its final run.

Yeah, I would. The storylines really kicked into high gear halfway through season 2 and have just gone from strength to strength since. Season 3 was awesome! I’m glad they will get a fifth and final season to round off the sereis with a great finale.

I shall add it to my list of things to watch. Maybe it will impress me. I stuck with Smallville for 10 years, I’m sure I can give this a go.

Well worth checking out if you have time. Gotham grew on me over time, really like how the character arcs developed. Yes, Smallville was good as well.

Know what you mean, my schedule is always so jam packed these days, never enough time to do everything.
