This October, satirical black comedy, Digger makes its way onto cinema screens. The film – from director Alejandro G. Iñárritu – stars Tom Cruise, John Goodman, Riz Ahmed, Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Jesse Plemons, and focuses on a race to save the world from disaster.
Teasing the new movie, Warner Bros. Pictures, said: “The most powerful man in the world races to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he unleashed destroys everything.”
The early buzz for Digger has been very positive, with many claiming it to feature one of Tom Cruise’s best performances. As such, expect Digger to be the talk of the town when it opens, and certainly the subject of much online chatter.
But when Digger hits movie theatres, will it be suitable for everyone? And will it be suitable for children or teenagers?
Let’s take a look at the age rating.

Digger UK rating
In the UK, Digger has been certified ‘15’ by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). The film has received this rating for “very strong language.”
Elaborating further, the BBFC said the language relates to “Infrequent use of very strong language (‘c**t’) occurs, along with frequent strong language (‘f**k’). Milder terms include ‘dick’, ‘bitch’, ‘arsehole’, ‘ass’, ‘arse’, ‘shit’, ‘bullshit’, ‘balls’, ‘tits’, ‘piss’, ‘crap’, ‘bloody’ and ‘screw’.”
In the UK, movies awarded a ‘15’ certificate are deemed suitable for audiences aged 15 or over. No one below the age of 15 will be permitted to watch a ‘15’ certificate movie in a UK cinema.
As such, when it comes to Digger, the BBFC believe the movie is suitable for mid-teens and above (i.e. anyone aged 15 or over). It is not suitable for teenagers or children aged 14 or below.

Digger US rating
In the US, Digger has been rated ‘R’ by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPA). The film has received this rating due to pervasive language.
In the US, ‘R’ rated movies are classed as ‘restricted’, meaning anyone under the age of 17 requires a parent or adult guardian to watch the film in theatres. However, this is where things differ between the UK and the US, as anyone can watch an ‘R’ rated movie in cinemas, so long as they adhere to the parent/guardian requirement.
Based on the ‘R’ rating, the MPA believe Digger is most suited for those aged 17 and above, but anyone 16 or below can view the film. It is up to parents to ultimately decide if this film is suitable for their child/teenager, based on the guidance given.

Ratings in other territories…
In addition to the UK and the US, Digger is rated ’12’ in Colombia and Germany; ’14’ in Brazil; ’14A’ in Canada; and MA15+ in Australia. The film is rated ‘B15′ in Mexico; ’15A’ in Ireland; ’15’ in South Korea; ’16’ in Hungary; ’17+’ in Indonesia; and ’18’ in Malaysia.
In Israel, Digger is rated ‘ALL’; while in Japan the movie is rated ‘G’. In Taiwan, Digger is rated ‘6+’.
