Last week saw the release of the highly anticipated slasher sequel, Scream 7. The film – directed by Kevin Williamson – hit the UK last Thursday, before opening in the US on Friday, where it became quite the talking point over the weekend.
Why? Because critics were less than hot on the movie, and audiences were far more enthusiastic.
Either way, irrespective of where anyone stands on the critical response to Scream 7, the film has been packing out cinemas. Everyone and their mother has already been to see Scream 7, and many more will be heading to the nearest multiplex this weekend to take a look.
And due to the popularity of the movie, ticket sales have already been very encouraging. In its first weekend alone, Scream 7 has taken over $96 million (from a budget of $45 million), which is more than enough to declare it a box office hit – and it’s just getting started!
But this is not the only success story connected to Scream 7, there’s more. Because of how well the movie has done so far, it has now pushed the Scream movie series into the billion dollar club!

The original entry, Scream took $173 million back in 1996, while Scream 2 took $172.4 million in 1997, and Scream 3 took $161.8 million in 2000. Scream 4 then followed in 2011 with $97.2 million, while 2022’s Scream raked in $138.9 million and 2023’s Scream VI made $169 million.
These six films helped the series become a success story, and proved there was plenty of profit in Ghostface. But with the release of Scream 7 the films are not just a success story, they are now operating in the billion dollar big leagues.
And of course, this is great news for everyone involved in the film series, it’s great news for cinemas, and it’s great news for the horror genre. There was once a time when the slasher sub-genre had fallen out of favour, but Scream rejuvenated everything back in ‘96 and it’s still going strong now.
So a round of applause for Scream 7. This almost certainly ensures Scream 8 isn’t far off.
