Halloween is fast approaching, which means everyone has their eye on the best and/or newest horror movies to watch this year. One possible new offering is the supernatural sports horror, Him.
The movie from director Justin Tipping stars Marlon Wayans and Tyriq Withers and follows the story of Cameron ‘Cam’ Cade – a young, up-and-coming football player. In the movie, Cam is invited to train at an isolated compound which sends him off on a blood-chilling journey.
When Him arrives in cinemas this month, it is likely to attract young horror fans. With its eye-catching poster and it’s intriguing premise, it’s sure to draw the attention of teens eager to take a look.
But when Him arrives in cinemas, is it suitable for a teen audience? Not all horror is for all ages, so how does Him stack up?
Let’s take a look at the age rating.

Him (2025) UK age rating

In the UK, Him has been awarded an ’18’ certificate by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). The movie has been given this rating due to “strong bloody violence, (and) injury detail.”
In terms of violence, the BBFC said: “People are stabbed, decapitated and slashed with blades, resulting in huge spurts of blood. In one instance, a sword is dragged through a victim’s body when they are impaled. Other scenes contain sporting violence, and a person is repeatedly struck in the face with a football.”
In the UK, an ’18’ rated movie is deemed suitable for audiences aged 18 or over. No one under the age of 18 is allowed to watch an ’18’ certificate movie in a UK cinema (those are the rules).
This isn’t one of those situations where a 15-year-old can watch the film so long as they go with a parent, it’s a case of 18 or over only. As such, based on this certificate the BBFC believe Him is not suitable for the vast majority of teens.

Him (2025) US age rating

In the US, Him has been given an ‘R’ rating by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). The film has been given this rating due to strong bloody violence, language throughout, sexual material, nudity, and some drug use.
In the US, things are significantly different and anyone can watch an ‘R’ rated movie at the cinema. The only stipulation is that those under the age of 17 must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.
Based on the ‘R’ rating, a teen can watch Him in a US cinema. It’s essentially down to a parent to decide if they should.
When it comes to ‘R’ rated movies, the MPAA suggest parents familiarise themselves with the film before attending a screening. So, if a young teen in your household wants to watch Him at the cinema, the MPAA suggest you consider all the information before booking your tickets.
