In 1992, X-Men: The Animated Series made its debut. The cartoon series, based on the Marvel Comics characters of the same name, followed the story of a team of mutants who fight for equality in a world that hates and fears them.

Upon making its debut, X-Men: The Animated Series was deemed a hit with audiences and quickly became appointment television. Critics loved the compelling writing and excellent character work, while fans appreciated the care that was taken to ensure the X-Men mythology was presented in a respectful and entertaining way.

One of the key aspects of X-Men: The Animated Series was its cast of villains and deadly foes. One of these foes was the ancient mutant, Apocalypse, who appeared in the series multiple times.

The Cure

In The Cure, the mutant population suddenly becomes aware of a potential cure for mutants. This catches the attention of various mutants from around the world, including the X-Men’s Rogue, as well as wealthy secret mutant, Warren Worthington III. However, the cure is not what it seems and is instead part of a sinister scheme orchestrated by Apocalypse.

Come the Apocalypse

With the assistance of the shape-shifting mutant, Mystique, Apocalypse transforms four mutants into his four Horsemen: War, Famine, Pestilence, and Death. One of these mutants is Warren Worthington III, the newly-christened Archangel.

Time Fugitives – Part One

After averting an assassination in the 1990s, the time-travelling mutant, Bishop returns to his future timeline only to discover the world is still in a dark place. A deadly mutant-virus has caused insurmountable deaths, which triggers a new journey back to the past, putting him on a collision course with Apocalypse.

Time Fugitives – Part Two

Back in the 1990s, Bishop attempts to stop the spread of the virus but hits a huge stumbling block in the shape of Apocalypse, as well as another time-travelling mutant named Cable, who also has a severe dislike for the ancient mutant.

Obsession

With his hatred of Apocalypse completely consuming every aspect of his life, Archangel sets out to destroy the villain once and for all. But unfortunately his obsession with Apocalypse puts the X-Men in danger.

Beyond Good and Evil – Part One

On his way back to the future, a temporal event occurs which knocks Bishop off course, trapping him in the Axis of time. Here he learns of a dark plot which is being orchestrated by Apocalypse, which could cause the end of existence as we know it.

Beyond Good and Evil – Part Two

Apocalypse enlists the help of multiple villains to kidnap mutant psychics from around the world. His latest target is Psylocke.

Beyond Good and Evil – Part Three

In Part Three of Beyond Good and Evil, Cable joins the fight, teaming up with the X-Men. His plan is to take a mutant team back to the past to destroy Apocalypse’s Lazarus Chamber – the source of his strength and longevity.

Beyond Good and Evil – Part Four

The X-Men, Bishop, and Cable face their greatest battle with the fate of the world and the fate of time itself hanging in the balance. Could Apocalypse finally win?

The Fifth Horseman

With Apocalypse trapped in the Astral Plane he needs a host body to escape and return to the real world. Jubilee seems like a good candidate.
