Explaining Little House on the Prairie

Little House on the Prairie made its debut in March 1974, in the form of a pilot movie, appropriately titled Little House on the Prairie. The movie – directed by Michael Landon – was a hit with audiences and was quickly turned into a television series, which began airing from September of the same year.

The show remained on air for nine seasons, with the final season getting a slight retitle (A New Beginning). This season was not the ratings winner that previous seasons were, and the show was brought to a close in 1983.

However, despite the cancellation of Little House, the series remained popular and following the conclusion of the series, the show was revived for three television movies. The movies included: Little House: Look Back to Yesterday (1983), Little House: Bless All the Dear Children (1984), and Little House: The Last Farewell (1984).
