Since hitting television screens in 2016, Chesapeake Shores has been building a strong and loyal following. The show – based on the book series of the same name by Sherryl Woods – airs on the Hallmark Channel, and has proved steady in the ratings.
If you’re a fan of the television series, you’ve no doubt come to enjoy the comings and goings of the residents of Chesapeake Shores, and in particular the O’Brien sisters. But you have no doubt had one question on your mind this whole time you have been watching the series – will there be a Chesapeake Shores movie?
In response to that question, there is some very good news.
A Chesapeake Shores movie is currently in development. The as-yet-untitled movie was announced by Hallmark back in 2019, during Crown Media Family Networks’ bi-annual Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour.
The film is set to star Meghan Ory, Emilie Ullerup, and Laci Mailey, who will reprise their roles of Abby, Bree, and Jess O’Brien respectively. The movie will be set in Rome, and will centre around a wedding.
The official plot summary for the new movie reads as follows:
‘With the winter weather dreary in Chesapeake Shores and their own love lives in a complicated state, Abby (Ory), Bree (Ullerup) and Jess (Mailey), adventure to Rome for the wedding of a childhood friend.
‘While in Rome, they discover the wedding plans are in complete chaos and the bride may have a case of pre-wedding jitters because she has gone missing.
‘In an attempt to find the bride, the O’Brien sisters scour the sites of Rome and work to create a happily ever after, while ultimately realizing the romance they each deserve back home in Chesapeake Shores.’
Speaking about the project via an official press release, Crown Media Family Networks Executive Vice President, Programming and Network Publicity, Michelle Vicary, said: “Out viewers have fallen in love with the O’Brien sisters, characters filled with pure joy, humour and heart. We are excited to dive deeper into their roles and shed more light on each of their journeys as these women balance romance, friendship and family.”
No release date has been set for the Chesapeake Shores movie just yet, and of course there will be a slight delay due to the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, but the film should be on the horizon in the not-too distant future. For now, enjoy the series, as the movie will be here in no time.
