If you’re a fan of The Mummy movie series you will recall that Rachel Weisz played the role of Evelyn Carnahan in The Mummy and The Mummy Returns. However, in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, the role was recast, with Maria Bello taking on the part.
At the time of production, rumours suggested Weisz left the role of Evelyn due to being unhappy with certain aspects of the script for Tomb of the Dragon. However, Weisz cited scheduling conflicts as well as a desire not to be away from home for months shooting the movie.

Hang on a minute, in addition to The Mummy movies, wasn’t there a series of Scorpion King movies too?! Are these connected and do I need to watch these movies?
For those unaware, The Mummy Returns featured a character called the Scorpion King – a villain played by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. Universal Pictures – the studio behind the Brendan Fraser Mummy movies – felt the Scorpion King would be popular enough to lead his own series of movies, and created a spin-off film, appropriately titled The Scorpion King (2002).
Released in cinemas in 2002, the movie proved financially successful enough to create a series of prequels/sequels, all revolving around the Scorpion King. These films furthered the character’s history, telling his backstory prior to the events of The Mummy Returns.
But here’s the important bit: Putting aside the link to The Mummy Returns, the Scorpion King series is effectively a standalone collection of films. The movies do not feature Brendan Fraser, or have anything to do with his character, Rick O’Connell, and therefore you do not need to view The Scorpion King movies to enjoy/understand The Mummy franchise.
