When 20th Century Fox put the first Percy Jackson film into production, the plan was to create a series of films based on Riordan’s novels. Ultimately, only two films were made.
The reason for this?
While the first film did OK at the box office, the critical response was a little underwhelming. 20th Century decided to press ahead with a second entry, but at a slightly smaller budget.
The response to the second film – Sea of Monsters – also proved underwhelming and it made less money than the first. Rather than continue to pump funds into the movies, 20th Century Fox abandoned the series after two films.
