With so many distractions nowadays, including a continual increase in super hero movies, comic book publishers need to be 100% on the ball in order to maintain readers’ interest. To keep readers buying comics, publishers have to come up with new hooks to sell their books.

But where do you see comic book publishers in the future? Where are they headed?

Will the big publishers of today still be around in say, 50 years’ time? If so, how will readers be consuming their comics?

Think back 50 years, and few people would have predicted that comics would be providing the template for some of the biggest and most profitable movies of the modern age. Oh sure, comic book readers knew that comics had the potential, but did anyone think we would be where we are now, with comic book movies ruling the roost?

Thing is, now that comic book movies (and TV shows) are the default setting for entertainment, are comics falling a little by the wayside? If movies are scratching our itch for all things super hero-y, is there still a place for super hero comics?

What I’m saying is, if comic book movies continue to remain as popular as they are now over the coming ten, 30 or even 50 years, will super hero comics still be around? Will we need them?

Comics have always filled a gap that wasn’t really being catered for elsewhere. In the past there was the odd TV show or movie, but if you wanted super hero stories, you needed to dive into comics.

Will future generations still need to do this?

There’s no right or wrong answer here; I’m just genuinely interested to know everyone’s thoughts on the future of super hero comics. Do you think they will endure the test of time, or do you envision a future where super hero comics are few and far between?

Personally, I would love to see super hero comics stand the test of time. I think if Hollywood’s fascination with super hero stories subsides, comics will once again become the default option, but what do you think?

Thoughts in the comments section, please.
