The first entry in Sylvester Stallone’s iconic Rocky saga dates all the way back to 1976. While Creed II – which was released in 2018 – is the most recent chapter. But which Rocky movie is the best? And in what order should they be ranked?

Below is a list of all eight movies in the Rocky series, ranked according to their Rotten Tomatoes ratings. Is your favourite king of the ring, or should it be knocked out? Take a look at the rankings and tell me if you agree with this order.

Here are the rankings according to Rotten Tomatoes:

  • 1.) Creed (2015) – 95%
  • 2.) Rocky (1976) – 94%
  • 3.) Creed II (2018) – 84%
  • 4.) Rocky Balboa (2006) – 77%
  • 5.) Rocky II (1979) – 71%
  • 6.) Rocky III (1982) – 64%
  • 7.) Rocky IV (1985) – 40%
  • 8.) Rocky V (1990) – 29%

As you can see, Creed scores the highest, while Rocky follows close behind. At the bottom of the list (not surprisingly) is Rocky V with a measly 29% – does anyone like this film?

Perhaps most surprisingly is Rocky IV’s rating of just 40%. Rocky IV is considered to be a fan-favourite in the series, so I expected it to score higher.

If I was to rank the movies, I’d place Rocky II at the top (it’s my favourite) and then Creed. Rocky V would still be at the bottom – because it’s rubbish.

Here’s how I would rank the movies:

  • Rocky II
  • Creed
  • Rocky
  • Rocky III
  • Rocky Balboa
  • Creed II
  • Rocky IV
  • Rocky V

But what about you?

If you want to check out the first six Rocky movies – i.e the non-Creed films, then you can pick them up in one neat little DVD boxset called: Rocky: The Undisputed Collection.

The set – which is available on Amazon UK – is competitively priced and includes a DVD commentary on the Rocky Balboa disc.

If you wish to pick up the Creed movies, these can be purchased as a twin-pack.
