As previously noted on It’s A Stampede!, Avengers: Endgame is doing exceptionally well at the worldwide box office. So well in fact, the movie has been inching nearer and nearer to matching the box office take of 2009’s Avatar.

As of today, there is now just $45 million between the two movies. When it comes to billion dollar franchises, $45 million is very, very close.

Avatar‘s total is $2,787,965,087, while Endgame is currently up to $2,742,943,570. The gap between the films is closing – but will it be enough?

Er… it’s looking unlikely that Endgame will equal or surpass Avatar. Endgame is still taking money at cinemas around the world, but things are now slowing to a crawl.

For Endgame to become the highest grossing movie of all-time it will need a last minute surge in ticket sales. This is possible, if Marvel Studios do one final marketing push to tie in with Spider-Man: Far From Home, but it’s going to be tight and in all honesty, I’d be very surprised if it happened.

I’ll come back to this story in a couple of weeks.
