Tonight I sat down to watch the first episode of Warner Bros.’ new TV show, Titans. The series – exclusive to DC Universe in the US – is available to stream on Netflix in the UK.

As a comic book nerd and a fan of super heroes I really want to tell you how much I enjoyed that first episode of Titans – but I can’t. I didn’t really enjoy it all.

The first episode introduced the four lead characters – Robin, Raven, Starfire and Beast Boy – and set up the tone of the series.

And therein lies the rub.

Titans is a dark, moody show, with a heavy focus on being an ‘adult’ series. Robin has no qualms about beating the crap out of bad guys; Starfire is perfectly fine with killing people; and Raven seems to be the target for every weirdo imaginable.

What about Beast Boy? Well, he only showed up during the final couple of minutes of the episode, which meant he didn’t really do much or make an impact.

Alas, this is not the Titans show I want to watch.

I appreciate this is just one episode and not completely representative of the series as a whole, but from this opener I’m just not that interested in what’s to come.

Will I go back to Titans in the future?

Honestly?

I don’t know. I really don’t know.

After just one episode of Titans I switched off Netflix, loaded up Amazon Prime and watched a couple of episodes of Batman: The Brave and the Bold. I felt as if I needed a palette cleanser and The Brave and the Bold was it.

Am I telling you that Titans is rubbish?

No. What I’m saying is this show is simply not for me, in the same way that Gotham isn’t for me. It’s a version of the Teen Titans/Titans that some may enjoy, but I didn’t.

Perhaps I’m suffering from super hero exhaustion and if something doesn’t grab my attention within one episode, I simply don’t have room for it. I have many other options available instead (including the old Teen Titans cartoon) so I’m not going to lose sleep over it.
