Prepare yourselves – another Police Academy movie could be on the cards. Or at least it could be according to actor, Steve Guttenberg.

A couple of days ago, Guttenberg posted an image on his Twitter account, asking his followers to guess where he was.

The photo prompted one follower (Adam) to answer the question, before suggesting that perhaps Guttenberg was in the process of filming a new Police Academy movie. Guttenberg responded with:

“Adam, the next Police Academy is coming, no details yet, but it is in a gift bag being readied!”

Guttenberg’s response suggests that a new Police Academy movie is very much in the pipeline – although nothing is official just yet. Should it happen, the project would become the eighth in a series which stretches back to 1984 and includes an animated series and a live-action show!

Fans of the film series will recall that Guttenberg played the role of Sargent Mahoney in four entries within the movie franchise, bowing out after Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol (1987). His character reappeared in Police Academy: The Animated Series, but Guttenberg had no involvement with this.

Rumours of a new Police Academy movie have persisted for a number of years, but to date nothing has materialised. In fact, I recall attending a comic book/movie convention 10-15 years ago, where Police Academy actresses, Marion Ramsey (Hooks) and Leslie Easterbrook (Callahan) mentioned a sequel was possible but again, nothing came of it.

I suppose the big question now is, if Police Academy 8 did get the go-ahead, would you actually want to watch it? Sound off in the comments section below.
