Anyone who knows me, knows that I am not a fan of X-Men: Apocalypse (2016). While I love the X-Men movie series, there are many things about that entry in the long-running series which really bug me.

So, I’m pleased to say that by all accounts X-Men: Dark Phoenix – the next movie in the series – will be very different to what was presented in X-Men: Apocalypse. Well, at least according to Jean Grey actress, Sophie Turner.

In a recent interview with Digital Spy, Turner said: “This movie is kind of a lot more emotion-based, much more grounded.”

Turner added: “There are, of course, those supernatural elements, but this one is really character-driven – a really emotional story about a girl battling with a deadly mix of mental health problems and being a superhero.

“So it’s all wrapped up into one, and it’s a movie about struggle and abandonment and not knowing yourself. Yeah, an internal struggling. It’s so, so interesting. It’s such a departure from the last movie.”

Sounds like writer/director/producer, Simon Kinberg is ensuring there’s a bit more depth to the story this time around. Let’s just hope the pesky reshoots – which have delayed the movie’s release until February 2019 – don’t cause any further delays.
