Creed II, the latest chapter in the ever-expanding Rocky saga arrives in cinema screens in November to become the 8th entry in the series. The first movie dates all the way back to 1976, with sequels cropping up every decade since.
But which movies are the best? And what order should they be ranked in?
Below is a list of the previous seven movies in the Rocky series, ranked according to their Rotten Tomatoes ratings. Do you agree with this order?
The Rocky movie series ranked according to Rotten Tomatoes:
1.) Creed (2015) – 95%
2.) Rocky (1976) – 93%
3.) Rocky Balboa (2006) – 76%
4.) Rocky III (1982) – 65%
5.) Rocky II (1979) – 38%
-) Rocky IV (1985) – 38%
6) Rocky V (1990) – 27%
As you can see, Creed scores the highest with the original Rocky following close behind. At the bottom of the list (not surprisingly) is Rocky V with a measly 27%.
Perhaps most surprisingly is Rocky IV’s rating of just 38%, which is joint with Rocky III. Rocky IV is considered to be a fan-favourite, so I expected it to score higher.
If I was to rank the movies, I’d place Rocky II at the top (it’s my favourite), then switch Rocky III and Rocky Balboa around. Rocky V would also be at the bottom – because it’s rubbish.
Here’s how I would rank the movies:
- Rocky II
- Rocky III
- Rocky Balboa
- Rocky IV
- Rocky V
But what about you?
If you could rank the movies, which entry would you place at the top?
While you consider your list, here’s a lovely poster for Creed II. The first official trailer arrives tomorrow.
