Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first official trailer for Mowgli.
The movie – directed by Andy Serkis – is an adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book and stars Rohan Chand, Matthew Rhys and Freida Pinto amongst its human cast, with motion capture performances from Christian Bale, Benedict Cumberbatch, Cate Blanchett, Naomie Harris and Eddie Marsan.
…yeah, I know what you’re thinking – ‘didn’t we have a Jungle Book movie two years ago?’
Yes. Yes, we did.
That Jungle Book movie was produced by Walt Disney Pictures. This Jungle Book movie is produced by Warner Bros. Pictures.
See, there’s a difference.
The truth is, both movies were initially set for release in 2016, but then Warner Bros. opted to push their film back, to create more time to finish off the visual effects. The fact this also created a bit of distance between the release of the two movies is purely coincidental.
*Cough*
Do we need another adaptation of The Jungle Book?
I’ll leave that one for you to decide.
Here’s the trailer…
And if you liked that and you want to see more, then check out this behind the scenes video, featuring input from Serkis…

I think it might be a bit of a hard sell for Warner Bros, as Disney’s Jungle Book is still fresh in peoples’ minds, it’s on Netflix etc… but maybe audiences will give it a chance.

I like Serkis and I trust he knows what he’s doing – maybe this will be different enough to create a distinction between the two movies.
