The Rocketeer is to be revived – but not necessarily in the way you might expect.

According to IGN, Disney Junior is to revive The Rocketeer as a new animated series, aimed at viewers aged between two and seven. The series will be inspired by the original comics and the 1991 movie of the same name, but this time around will follow the story of Kit, a young girl who is gifted a rocket-powered jet pack.

No details on how many episodes will be produced for this first season, but each episode will be split into two 11-minute stories. An original song will also appear per episode.

Joe D’Ambrosia, Senior Vice President of Original Programming at Disney Junior, said:

“We are very excited to introduce The Rocketeer to our young Disney Junior audience. The vast storytelling found in the original comic books provides the perfect opportunity to create an exciting new adventure series told from a young girl superhero perspective that the whole family can enjoy together.”

The Rocketeer is expected to air in 2019.
