Just before Christmas, the first four episodes of Netflix docu-show, The Toys That Made Us arrived on the streaming service. Forming the first half of the show’s debut season, the episodes offered an insight into some of the most successful toy lines of all-time including Star Wars, Barbie, Masters of the Universe and G.I. Joe.

I was a big fan of the first half of Season One (Season 1.1) and even reviewed the series for The Honcho-SFX blog. During my review, I said: “If you loved the toys of your youth, you’re a toy collector now or you’re just looking for a fun, yet interesting docu-show this Christmas, then The Toys That Made Us is for you.”

If you’ve yet to watch The Toys That Made Us, but you have even a passing interest in plastic playthings and collectibles, then I urge you to check it out now. Each episode tells a fairly self-contained tale about the highs and lows of the toy biz and each is a joy to watch.

The Barbie episode is perhaps the most insightful episode, but in truth, each episode is as good as the next. And of course, if you don’t know just how important Star Wars is to the toy industry, then now is your chance to get the inside story.

Anyway, that was Season 1.1, but what should we expect from Season 1.2? And, when does Season 1.2 make its debut?

If you’re chomping at the bit for more information about The Toys That Made Us, hopefully the following bit of information should clue you in!

How many episodes will appear in Season 1.2 of The Toys That Made Us?

As with the first half of Season One, the second half will boast four new episodes.

What is the running time of each episode?

Each episode should run around the same time as those during the first half of Season 1.1 (i.e. 45-50 mins per episode).

What toys will feature in The Toys That Made Us Season 1.2?

Season 1.2 will focus on four classic toy lines: Star Trek, LEGO, Transformers and Hello Kitty. Expect an interesting story for each – especially Star Trek!

Hello Kitty? Really?

Yes, Hello Kitty has been around since 1974 and is a hugely successful brand around the world. The Toys That Made Us focuses on properties that have remained successful (in some shape or form) since the day they were created – and Hello Kitty fits that criteria.

Why aren’t the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles featured in the show?

The first season only has eight episodes and all the slots were taken by other toys.

Where will Season 1.2 of The Toys That Made Us air?

As with the first half of Season One, the second collection of episodes of The Toys That Made Us will stream exclusively on Netflix.

When will Season 1.2 of The Toys That Made Us air?

No official release date has been set just yet, however series creator, Brian Volk Weiss has indicated the show will return in June 2018 – approximately six months after Season 1.1 landed.

Will there be a second season of The Toys That Made Us?

At present, only one season of The Toys That Made Us has been commissioned, so it all depends on how well the show does on Netflix. If you enjoy it and you think others will too, then recommend it! The more viewing figures the show gets, the more likely it is that we’ll see a second season. And of course, a second season would mean more toys!
