The forthcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie has been given a release date!

According to Variety, Paramount Pictures has scheduled the film for a November 15th release date, ensuring it arrives just in time for the holiday season. The film – based on Sega’s most iconic character – will feature a mix of CGI and live-action and will be the first proper big screen outing for Sonic (an appearance in 2012’s Wreck-It Ralph doesn’t count).

Neal H. Moritz is on producing duties, while Deadpool‘s Tim Miller and Toby Ascher will serve as executive producers. Dmitri Johnson and Dan Jevons will be co-producing.

Of all the game-based movie adaptations that have been produced or are currently in the pipeline, this is the one I’m most excited about. Well, maybe the second I’m most excited about… after the forthcoming Mario movie you understand.

So, what do you think? Will a live-action/CGI Sonic movie will work? More importantly, will Sonic the Hedgehog escape the video game/movie curse that has blighted so many other properties in the past?

Sound off in the comments.
