In 2015, the live-action musical fantasy movie, Descendants made its debut. The TV film inspired by various iconic characters from Disney animated movies, followed the story of a group of teens who are the offspring of Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Jafar, and Cruella de Vil.

Debuting on the Disney Channel, Descendants proved to be a hit with audiences and received a positive response from critics. As such, a series of sequels and a spin-off were soon given the green light, extending the series beyond its initial offering.

Descendants (2015)

As noted above, the first entry in the Descendants movie series arrived in 2015. The film followed the story of Mal, Carlos, Jay, and Evie, the descendants of some of the most vile and wicked villains of all time.

In the film, the teens are sent on a mission to steal the Fairy Godmother’s wand, in order to free their parents from captivity. Along the way, other fairytale characters appear, including Dopey and the Beast. (112 mins)

Descendants 2 (2017)

Due to the popularity of Descendants, Disney gave the go-ahead for a sequel which hit television screens in 2017. Appropriately titled Descendants 2, the film continued the story of Mal, Carlos, Jay, and Evie, as they attempt to adjust to their new lives in Auradon. (111 mins)

Descendants 3 (2019)

With the Descendants film series continuing to prove popular with audiences, a third film titled Descendants 3 debuted in 2019. In this film, the quartet of teens return to the isle of the Lost to recruit a new collection of villainous offspring. (108 mins)

Descendants: The Rise of Red (2024)

After three instalments, the Descendants movie series went on a temporary hiatus, before returning with a new entry in 2024. However, this fourth film – Descendants: The Rise of Red – was conceived as a spin-off, rather than a direct sequel to the initial trilogy.

In this film, newcomers Red and Chloe join forces to travel back in time with the aid of a magical pocket watch. Their goal is to stop an event which could have terrible repercussions. (94 mins)

Descendants: Wicked Wonderland (2026)

Picking up the story shortly after the events of Descendants: The Rise of Red, Wicked Wonderland focuses on what happily ever after really means for Red and Chloe, following their time-traveling adventures.
