A new Toy Story movie is heading into cinemas – the seventh in the series if we include 2000’s Buzz Lightyear of Star Command and 2022’s Lightyear (which we should). Titled Toy Story 5, the new movie follows on from the events of 2019’s Toy Story 4, with the toys facing a new crisis in the shape of an electronic tablet.
Teasing the new movie, Disney-Pixar said: “The toys are back and this time, Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Jessie and the rest of the gang’s jobs are challenged when they come face-to-face with Lilypad, a brand-new tablet device that arrives with her own disruptive ideas about what is best for their kid, Bonnie. Will playtime ever be the same?”
Featuring the voice talents of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, and Greta Lee, the new film is already creating a great deal of interest and anticipation. The previous Toy Story movies proved a hit with critics and audiences alike and Toy Story 5 is tipped to be more of the same.
But before heading off to the cinema to take a look, you may want to glance over the rating first, just to check the movie’s suitability for young audiences.

Toy Story 5 UK rating

In the UK, Toy Story 5 has been granted a ‘PG’ certificate by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). The film has received this rating for “mild bad language (and) rude humour”.
In terms of the language, the BBFC notes “occasional mild bad language (‘shat’) is used comically (and) there is also infrequent very mild bad language.” With regards to rude humour this relates to “an electronic toy shaped loke a toilet roll” which makes poo jokes.
In the UK, movies rated ‘PG’ (Parental Guidance) are suitable for general viewing, although some scenes may be unsuitable for young children.
In terms of the other entries in the main Toy Story series, the ‘PG’ rating is in line with the original Toy Story which received a ‘PG’ rating back in 1995 (Toy Story 2 – 4 were rated ‘U’). So, if you have very young children and they are fine with the original movie they should be OK with this new one.

In the US, if a movie is rated ‘PG’, parents are urged to use their own parental guidance. ‘PG’ rated movies may contain some material which parents may not like for their children, so use your judgement accordingly.
It’s worth noting, in the US, Toy Story 5 is the first entry in the main series to receive a ‘PG’ rating. Toy Story 1 – 4 previously received ‘G’ ratings.
