This August, the anime film, Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing arrives in cinemas. The film – from director Hiroyuki Hata – follows the story of a group of teenage musicians who must create a song to save a new version of virtual popstar, Miku.

Based on the mobile game Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage!, the film is the first movie to be based on popular Japanese character, Hatsune Miku. And if this movie does well, it’s highly likely more will follow.

But with Hatsune Miku proving popular with young anime fans, the question is: Is Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing suitable for family viewing? After all, the youngest members of the household may wish to see this film.

In the UK, Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing has been awarded a ‘PG’ certificate by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). The movie has received this certificate due to “mild bad language, threat, (and) upsetting scenes.”

In the UK, anyone can watch a ‘PG’ movie in the cinema irrespective of age. Parents are recommended to cast their eye over the material before allowing very young children to view, but this is only a guide and there is nothing stopping any one of any age from watching the film.

Based on the ‘PG’ rating, it’s clear the BBFC believes Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Singis suitable for family viewing. So, if you wish to take the kids, you’ll have no problem!

Over in the US, Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing has already been released – in fact it debuted earlier in the year. And when the movie played in US theatres it also carried a ‘PG’ rating.

The ‘PG’ rating in the US works in the same way as the ‘PG’ rating in the UK. As such, the film was also deemed suitable for family viewing in the US, so there are no problems if youngsters wish to see this one.
