In 2008, British author C.J. Sansom published the novel, Dissolution. The book followed the story of Matthew Shardlake – a lawyer living in Tudor England.

In the book, the year is 1537, Henry VIII is on the throne, and England is going through significant changes. Meanwhile, at monastery along the Sussex coast, lawyer Matthew Shardlake is investigating a mysterious death.

Released to a warm reception, Dissolution was a hit with readers and was soon followed by a second novel, Dark Fire. Picking up the story in 1540, this second book continued the adventures of Matthew Shardlake, with Shardlake getting caught up in another murder case while on the search for the formula to Greek Fire.

With Dark Fire proving to be another hit, more books followed, including Sovereign and Revelation. These books continued to centre their stories around Matthew Shardlake and collectively became known as the Shardlake series.

But if you’re new to the Shardlake novels, then you may be wondering how many books there are in the series and what is the reading order? Well, wonder no more, because the details are laid out below with a list of all the Shardlake books in the series.
